AT THE IMB SFILATA DI MODA

Hi Friends,

...oh you fancy huh? Nails done, hair done, everything did...

...that was  the atmosphere last night as staff, students and guests arrived for Istituto di Moda Burgo 2011/2012 Fashion Show at Crazy Jungle, Milano. The end of the school year fashion show had gradually become an exciting annual event that students always look forward to. The themes of the 2012 sfilata (which means parade/fashion show) was monochrome, new age and origami. Each theme had its different but specific colours and since January, students from different Burgo Institutes within and outside Italy got busy being creative and innovative...

...change clothes, and go...now girl I promise you no substitute...its just me...
...want you to make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world...

...like I'm the only one that you'll ever love...

...like I'm the only one who knows your heart...

 ...only girl in the world...

...like I'm the only one that's in command...

...cuz I'm the only one that understands...

...how to make you feel like a man, yeah...

I'm that Banana they're talking about...

Hi friends,
finally I've briefly woken up from my slumber when it comes to the continuation of the female body shape. If you are very observant you'll notice that "briefly" was written in italics. The reason being that I cant promise you when I'll post the next body shape. Yeah, yeah, call me lazy (sticks out tongue).

Back to business. We all know that girl we envy; that girl with the high cheekbones on the cover page of famous magazines; that girl catwalking on the runway; that girl that never seems to add weight; that girl that makes an ugly bikini look hot...guys wanna date her...girls wanna be her...and she goes on to rub it in by saying, "I'm that Banana, they're all talking about."

The banana body shape isn't called the ruler or rectangle for no reason, the bust and hips are very proportional and the waist is a little indented (few inches slimmer than the shoulder and hip measurement). There are different variations of this body shape and while some don't have small bust, some have big bust but they have great arms and legs. That being said, let's not forget that the goal of any body shape is to create a proportional figure; let's see how the banana female body shape can pull that off.

Starting from the top as usual, when it comes to blouses, no over-sized or clingy tops is permitted. The only exception to wearing an over-sized top is if you are going to use a belt at the waist but besides that-shaking my head; its also a no go area for clingy tops because the only job they do is emphasize how straight you look (hence the name ruler) or how much of a tiny waist you don't have. Unlike the apple shape that has to be selective when it comes to necklines, you can pull off different types of necklines such as the v-neck, off-shoulder, mono-strap and even the round-neck. The same goes for sleeves, you can afford to wear any type of sleeve, from sleeveless to a long sleeve, as a matter of fact, shoulder pads and flamboyant sleeves got nothing on you -whatever makes you happy.

When it comes to jackets, go for fitted jackets that flare at the waist. Don't wear jackets and sweaters that end under your bust or on your waist. Make sure your jackets end at the widest part of your hips so your hips look wider than your waist.

The rule of skirts and trouser is not difficult; I wont advice you to wear straight or pencil skirts because the emphasize the straightness of your figure BUT you can wear them depending on your combination. For instance, a blouse which flares from the waist can be worn on a straight or pencil skirt because the blouse is already giving the illusion of a tiny waist and hips. Also, jackets that end on the the widest part of your hip and more volume to your hips. Your best bet is A-line and flare skirts, bell-shaped and full skirts, in fact, any skirt that tends to give the illusion of a tiny waist and add to the hips is great for you. Please don't forget that with your legs, you can afford to wear skirts above the knee, if you are comfortable with dressing that way. When it comes to jeans, you can wear tight jeans and pants should be tailored and always fitted at the hips, they could be flare from the knee or fitted and end at the calf. Just remember that you can wear all types of trousers.

With dresses, your options are a little similar to that of the apple shape. While the apple shape is disguising her stomach with an empire waist dress, you are giving yourself more hips. Also go for wrap round dresses and those with drapes (pleats and gathers) because they add more volume to your figure and as a matter of fact, your shape is the only one that can really pull off wearing drapes without looking fat so flaunt dearest.

Padded bra is not an enemy, neither shoulder pads nor fashionable waist belts (thin or fat). Horizontal patterned clothes make you look wider so add a couple of those to your wardrobe. Cute and girly is adorable for your shape and I'm not talking about colours alone; let your hair down when you can, accessorize, especially with necklaces or shawls, cute purses or big bags and don't forget those heels.

Changes

Hi friends,

Tonight in the fashion city of Milan, I decided to distract myself from my aching tooth...no, its not a tooth cavity caused by the ever delicious Italian dolci but a growing "wisdom" tooth...laugh all you want but all I can say is speak to the hands.... So back to what I was saying, I changed my blog name and template, hope you like the changes.

I decided to name this post "changes" and what popped in my head was a song by 2 Pac titled changes (don't ask me why, I REPEAT, do not ask me why). When I think of changes, I remember life...forever changing with the only constant being God. And for me, that means the template of this blog and possibly the name is going to change yet again...because I easily get tired of things in general.

Here is a lil som' som'...the best is yet to come!

To as many that lost loved ones in the Dana Air plane crash on Sunday 3rd of June, 2012, may you find peace and comfort in loving memories...

We know not the future

We know not even the next millisecond

How then can we prepare for what we know not?

How can we, when we know not?

Now. Live. Love. Appreciate.

From Milan...Buona Notte!

Ebonii meets Ferretti

Hi friends,

In case you did not miss me, I missed you :) As a matter of fact, I missed me too ;)

Lets catch up a little. I've been in the fashion capital of Milan since January and I'm finally settled (bless God for that!). Now, let's move to the present...I just got back from my first fashion show...clears throat...I was there as a guest, and no, i didn't get to meet Ferretti, just so you know, before you get any "great ideas"; when I get to participate in one or actually meet a famous or upcoming designer, you'll definitely know.

So back to the gist...la segretaria (giggles- the secretary) in my fashion school calls me from class on Tuesday like i had committed some offense and was to report to the principals office for some disciplinary action. Surprisingly, she hands me a beautiful envelope with the name Alberta Ferretti (NOTE: if you didn't stress the 'double r'  and 'double t', please go back and read again) written boldly in capital letters...Nigerian girl like me had already put two and two together...but she explains anyway, "her fashion exhibition is tomorrow at 5pm and its not far from here...blah blah blah." Well, well, I was so excited I told my family and friends about it and hours later it occurred to me, what to wear or more like what not to wear? After much contemplation and with thanks to my big sis, I settled for something simple and elegant, after which I called it a beautiful day.

To fast-track the whole story, I and 3 other girls from my fashion school that received the invitation got to the venue about 10 minutes late and watched as the creme de la creme of the fashion industry with "VIP invitation" got to go in while we future fashionista's waited till it got to our turn. By the time we were finally allowed to go in, there were no seats but we found a way to put our butts down and the show began. I couldn't get great pictures but hopefully you'll like what I've got.

Now, now, the funniest part of it all was that the show barely lasted 30 minutes and when it was over, everyone just got up from their seats and exited the building. Secondly, I never got to take off my jacket (still laughing), so the simple and elegant outfit wasn't even seen by my friends.

I'm no fashion critique so I'm keeping "mum" about the collection. Here are some of my favorite pieces from Alberta Ferretti's Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection, Milan Fashion Week.
