OnStyle: Power Monday

Hello lovelies,

Don't let the thought of Monday weigh you down. Be happily OnStyle with this menswear fashion idea and stay on top of the Monday madness. If the pressure gets to you, remember to breathe and smile because you've got swag and intellect and no one can take that from you.

Monday is just a day in the week. This is just a phase in your life. Style is eternal. Keep believing in your dreams.

OnStyle: Happy Children's Day!

Hello lovelies,

It's children's day! Thank God for the kids we have and hope to have. Let's put a smile on their faces, love them, provide for them, keep them safe, be active in their lives, build a relationship with them and support their dreams.

I've got an OnStyle Special for you all to mark this children's day. I put together some styles and trends from the little ones. Be it denim, a bow tie, agbada or an African print style, the kids have got style and are not afraid to show it. Of course they are dressed by the adults but I must say, they are stealing the spotlight with all that cuteness, got-no-worry smile, fresh skin and young swag.

Enjoy!

OnStyle: Feeling the style...

Hello lovelies,

The weekend is fast approaching like a high-speed train . . . don't worry I amaze myself with my words too . . . back to the train and weekend; for those of you who can't be casual during the week, here's a style to consider for le weekend and perhaps, if this is SFW (suitable for work) at yours, you may just give it a try tomorrow.

I'm feeling the style of Stephanie Coker in tee, jeans, snickers and uh, that yellow bag that just pops out, yet remains in sync but adds that bit of feminine touch to this tomboyish look . . .

And playing in my head from the moment I laid eyes on this picture and throughout the write-up is the line from Ciara- Like a Boy- "sometimes I wish I could act like a boy . . . Can't be getting mad! What you mad? Can't handle that?"

STOP! REWIND!

Let me start by saying Happy New Year!!!

Whatever you dream . . .

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist.

You forgot to set your alarm or slept through it or perhaps you just aren't a morning person . . . clearly…things aren't going as planned. Now, you are late and everything is going fast. You have one leg in and another leg out the door. You are multitasking between what you need to take to the office or wherever, and the things you have to do . . . before you know it, you are out the door but just hold up…STOP! REWIND!

In the words of my Italian teacher, “boys and girls, stop!”  So why do you need to stop and rewind you wonder? Look in the mirror dear. It may seem so unimportant but it does matter. You may not be bothered but it does matter. You cannot make a first impression twice so get it right the first time.

“It takes just a quick glance, maybe three seconds, for someone to evaluate you when you meet for the first time. In this short time, the other person forms an opinion about you based on your appearance, your body language, your demeanor, your mannerisms, and how you are dressed.”
--- MindTools

So this leads me to ask you, what vibes are you giving off, especially early in the morning?

Ladies don’t focus on your hair and makeup alone; guys don’t focus on your shirt and shoes alone . . .or whatever you all focus on. Style is about the total package. So when you rewind, you can decide on what you are going to wear the day before or have in mind plan A, B and even C so that when you get up in the morning, the last thing on your mind is “what to wear or perhaps what not to wear?” Also, don’t focus on one fashion accessory alone. From head to toe, there should be a perfect blend; a oneness of style; fashion - cohesion! When people look at you they should see you first before they notice the different fashion accessories that make up your total package.

When it comes to an overall look, ask yourself this question, where are my going? And you can have a follow up question of, who could I possibly run into?
