Moulage: Draping at Christian Dior

Hello Beautiful People!

I'm going to share a video of Moulage or Draping technique I watched on YouTube. Moulage is a design term used to describe the process of directly fitting a toile or fabric to a dress dummy or person. Moulage is 3D and different from flat pattern drafting which is 2D and involves manipulating a pattern block but they both have the same result, a finished garment.

The clip you are about to watch is a remake of the 1939 design by Dior for Robert Piguet and it will leave you mind-blown but if it doesn't . . . I don't know, run along. This is the art of couture; the toile is made and the toile pieces are then used as the pattern to cut the actual fabric before sewing but sometimes, the actual fabric can be draped directly on the dress dummy and sewn afterwards.
